Building an Ensemble: James focused on the art of creating a sense of ensemble, rehearsing and nourishing ensembles in the rehearsal room, onstage and when touring.

This was a practical workshop exploring various exercises with participatory opportunities.

About James

James has been Artistic Director of Royal & Derngate in Northampton since 2013, having previously been Associate Director at The New Vic Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent and London’s Theatre503 and held Fulbright and Shubert Fellowships in New York. He has directed in the West End, at Shakespeare’s Globe and the National Theatre and at many regional theatres across the UK and abroad. He is a Trustee for Talawa Theatre Company and a 2018 Franco-British Young Leader.

Productions in the West End include: The Mountaintop (Olivier Award for Best New Play, nominated for 4 further awards), Precious Little Talent (London Theatre Festival Award for Best Play, Evening Standard Award nomination) and The Thrill of Love (New Vic, Stephen Joseph and St James Theatres, nominated for Writers Guild Award)
