In partnership with Chichester Festival Theatre, we are able to offer positions for an Assistant Director Apprentice and an Assistant Stage Manager Apprentice.

These apprenticeships are fantastic opportunities to develop your skills on a professional production in one of the UK's leading theatres, working alongside the director, associate director and stage management teams. The roles will be varied and may range from observing to assisting.

Criteria for Applying

The candidate should:
  • Have had some training or have worked on at least two productions (perhaps fringe/pub theatre)
  • Have shown an active commitment to the craft, by working in any type of theatre environment, whether paid or unpaid
Please note if you have completed a degree or higher education qualification you will still be eligible to apply.

  • Send a CV and covering letter (no longer than one-side A4) saying why you should be given the place. Please include your full name in the title of the documents.

Rehearsals will take place in London, and you will be based in Chichester from Monday 13 April. You must be available for the entire period. 

The Apprenticeship will be paid at National Living Wage for 2020. In addition to the apprenticeship payment, a subsistence allowance will be paid for the technical and preview weeks (up to and including Press Night) at Chichester.

The Apprentice Scheme is generously supported through funds raised from our Autumn Gala in 2019. The apprenticeships are run in partnership with Chichester Festival Theatre, and the positions advertised are in addition to any professional roles on the production.
