Actor Sope Dirisu led a live Q&A over on our Instagram on Friday 16 October. With leading roles across theatre, film and TV, including Black Mirror and Humans, Sope discussed how to build a successful career as an actor, and gave insight into his varied career.


About Sope

 
Sope started as a member of the National Youth Theatre and frequently attended Masterclass sessions to develop his craft and skills, working on the Theatre Royal Haymarket stage with Masters such as Jeremy Herrin and Linda Marlowe.

After completing a degree in Economics at the University of Birmingham, Sope went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, playing the titular role of Pericles in Pericles, Prince of Tyre. Other theatre credits include Death of a Salesman at the Piccadilly Theatre, Coriolanus, for which he received a nomination for the Ian Charleson Award of 2017 and One Night in Miami at the Donmar.

Previous film and television credits include The Huntsman: Winter's War, and Ariel Vromen’s sci-fi thriller, Criminal, AMC’s Humans, Black Mirror, for which he received the 2017 Rising Star Award for the Screen Nation Film and Television Awards and Channel 4’s The Mill.

Sope is quickly establishing himself as an internationally renowned actor, showcasing a range of disciplines across film, television and theatre. On screen he can currently be seen in the AMC/SKY action series, Gangs of London and on Netflix’s His House, due to be released on October 30th. Later this year, he lends his voice as Sergi, the daemon of Ruta Skadi, in the second season of HBO/BBC’s His Dark Materials.
