Matthew Xia led a Masterclass on Exploration of Text, looking at ‘actioning’ along with the textual analysis of a scene and its practical application in the rehearsal room.

About Matthew 

Matthew Xia was appointed Artistic Director of Actors Touring Company in November 2018.

Matthew is one of the busiest and most exciting directors in the UK. He is a former Associate Artistic Director of Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, Director in Residence at Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and Associate Director of Theatre Royal Stratford East. He is currently an Associate Artist at Nottingham Playhouse.
Some of Matthew’s acclaimed productions include: Frankenstein, Wish List (also Royal Court) and Into The Woods (All Royal Exchange Manchester), Blue/Orange and Sizwe Banzi is Dead  (Young Vic), One Night In Miami and Shebeen (Nottingham Playhouse).
Other work of note includes: Blood Knot (The Orange Tree), Sleeping Beauty (Stratford East), Scrappers and Migration Music (Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse), Dublin Carol (Sherman Theatre Cardiff) and NitroBeat’s Suckerpunch Boomsuite (Barbican).
Matthew is a founding member of Act for Change, a trustee of Artistic Directors of the Future and of Cardboard Citizens and a Patron for the charity Common. He has served on the boards of Rich Mix, Creative Futures and Theatre Royal Stratford East. He has also been a judge for the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting (2017) and the Alfred Fagon Award (2017 - 2019).
