WORK EXPERIENCE: LIGHTING

Location: Palace Theatre, West End

Duration: 2 weeks (16 April – 29 April 2025)

Masterclass and Sonia Friedman Productions are accepting applications for a two-week work experience placement with the Lighting Department on the London production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is an exciting development opportunity for someone who wishes to gain practical experience and knowledge in theatre lighting.

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this new play by Jack Thorne received its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.

The work experience will run in April 2025. You will shadow the lighting department for both show days and maintenance days, Wednesday to Sunday each week. Standard working hours are 9.30am – 7.30pm, though some evenings may be required.

WHO CAN APPLY?

This opportunity is best suited to those in the final year of a university course. Please note that this placement is for over 18s only.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Candidates should:

• Be able to demonstrate interest in theatre lighting design
• Have some practical experience of supporting live events and productions
• Be eager to learn Professional experience is not required
