Paid Internship: Junior Theatre Technician

Other

Date

April 11, 2024

Time

DEADLINE: 8PM, 11 April

Venue

We are inviting applications for a three-month paid internship at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, West End as a Junior Theatre Technician.

This is a fantastic entry level opportunity for someone interested in electrics, woodwork, and/or carpentry. You will be working full time at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for three months, mentored by our in-house electrical and carpentry teams, and receiving support from the Masterclass team. During this 13-week internship you will learn and practise the skills needed to pursue a career backstage in theatre. You will gain in experience across many roles backstage, from carpentry to lighting, sound and automation, with the option to focus on whichever skill interests you.

This is an entry level role, and therefore suitable for people who have no formal theatre training - you do not need any experience of working in a theatre to apply, but you must have relevant skills in carpentry / woodwork or electrics or sound, and you must have an interest in working in theatre or live events. You will receive appropriate skills training and a workplace reference for future employment.

Not sure what job this internship could lead to? Check out a full list of backstage careers here.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

This internship is a development and learning opportunity for those at the start of their theatre career, or those who are interested in taking their first steps in the industry.

  • Have good communication and organisational skills
  • Work calmly under pressure and be able to solve problems as they arise

As such, our recruitment focuses on providing opportunities to those currently underrepresented in our workforce, and across the entertainment industry. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from candidates from the global majority, who come from a working class background or who have faced specific obstacles to progression.
