Masterclass and Sonia Friedman Productions are seeking applications for the 'Laura Head' Sound Internship on the London production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is an exciting development opportunity for someone who wishes to further their theatre career and gain the experience to become a Sound professional on a large-scale commercial production.
This internship has been created in memory of Laura Head, a committed, valued and much missed member of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child's Sound team.
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this play written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany received its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards, including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a uniquely complex and busy show, with over 40 cast members and a huge team off stage across multiple departments, all working together to realise the production. The Sound Intern will work alongside the Sound team and will be primarily be backstage, learning the day-to-day running of the Sound department roles, preparing and maintaining the show plots and gaining practical experience of sound engineering for theatre. The intern will have the opportunity to meet with the show’s Sound Designer, Gareth Fry, to learn about the design process of the show and ask any design and career-related questions they may have. They will also be offered a one-year apprentice membership to The Association for Sound Design and Production at Future Professional level, for access to the ASDP's training, resources and events.
The internship will run from August to December 2024 across the Production's recast, rehearsals and performances.
