In May 1889 through 1890, Vincent van Gogh voluntarily resided at Saint-Paul de Mausole, a psychiatric hospital in an 11th century monastery in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Drawing from the letters from Vincent to his beloved brother Theo, Sky Pale Green imagines the life led by Vincent and his fellow patients within the stunningly beautiful and deeply isolating walls and gardens of Saint-Paul. Part dream play, part historical reimagination, Sky Pale Green examines the pain and pleasure of being alive in a world that seems against you.
