We are looking for Actors & Creatives for our upcoming Script Session!
On 19 May, we will be reading The Waiting Room by Akshay Sharan which was recently longlisted for our Pitch Your Play competion. This session will be taking place in person at Theatre Royal Haymarket, and we are looking for actors for the below roles.
Characters
Please note all roles are for South Asian actors, and you must be a Masterclass Member to apply
Subash Bose (Shubs) - Male, 25yrs. Subash’s one-track ambition as an actor and self-belief in being the best that ever was stops him from veering into fervent Hindu nationalism.
Jawahar Singh (Jay) - Male, 26yrs. Jawahar is as much a performer in this life as he would be a left-wing Sikh intellectual in another.
Mohan Das (Mo) - Male, 27yrs. Mohan dedicates himself to his work as much as he advocates for peace and harmony between all.
Iqbal Khan (Iqqy) - Male/Non Binary, 24yrs. Iqbal is an Islamic poet at their first ever acting audition.
About the Play
Four British South Asian actors arrive at an audition for the same part.
As each of them go into the audition room they are subjected to increasingly absurd and gratuitous acts of prejudice and abuse. What follows is an attempt to mobilize and formulate a coherent plan to confront the panel, however the differences that exist between themselves begin to emerge as a far greater threat.
Will the fight against villains out there ever happen before one’s house is in order?
Please note this is a CLOSED SESSION - only attend if you are invited to.
Actor/Creative/Designer and want to participate?
Please make sure you are signed up as Masterclass member. Email info@masterclass.org.uk with the title "SS 19 May - (your name)", with your CV/spotlight link, and whether you are happy to read in for a character.
We welcome Directors & Designers to give their feedback, and designers are welcome to do some quick sketches of potential design ideas.
